| 5 Star Resort In Habana Vieja (Old Havana) | ||||
| Introduction | ||||
|
Thanks to a trading society in Havana in the early 20th century and to the well-known Venezuelan architect Naranjo Ferrer the city can exhibit today this gorgeous building.
Between 1905 and 1908 the firm V. Loriente, S en C orders the construction of the building taking the lands of San Ignacio 18 and Amargura 11 for such a purpose, and once here it became one of the most outstanding fabric-importing firms in Havana. Besides the evident exterior beauty of the building, its gorgeous interiors denoted a solid prosperity at its time. Varied fabrics coming from the best factories in England, the United States of America, France and Spain were on display in the building making possible the trading with the retail firms all over the island. As evidence of the comfort of the place it counted on a 2000 cubic meter deposit on the cellar, a trolley to transport the merchandise, an electric elevator, and a magnificent marble staircase leading to the upper floors with rented offices. This modern building, lighted with electricity had excellent comfort for its clients, including a reading room and a library. Vicente Loriente and his partner dissolve the society in 1914. The place is sold to Compañía Cubana de Accidentes S.A., it got indebted and in 1927 in an auction made by La Gaceta Oficial de la República to pay such a debt the place is acquired by Esteban Gacicedo y Torriente from Santander, Spain. After his death and his wife’s his sons and son in law inherited the place as owners, and then they created La Sociedad Mercantil Compañía de Fincas Rústicas y Urbanas S.A. After years, in 1954, the company sells the building marked as Amargura 103 to the Cámara de Comercio de la República de Cuba, with offices in the building almost from its origins. |
